Newly Elected Soba LGA Chairman Kawu Yakassai Over Alleged Certificate Forgery In Kaduna Court, Nigeria.

The newly-sworn in Soba Local Government Chairman, Kawu Yakassai, on Wednesday appeared before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, Daura Road, Kaduna over alleged certificate forgery.

The case, which was earlier filed by two complainants, Musa Mustapha and Ubale TelanMatasa through their counsel, Garba Shehu, accused Yakassai of certificate forgery.

The case was first mentioned on 29 November and suffered three adjournments, leading to the issuance of a bench warrant by the court for the arrest of the accused. When the case was mentioned on Monday, the counsel to the accused, Mr D. I. Habib told the court that the accused had won the local government election and needed the court’s permission to be sworn in.

The counsel to the complainant, Shehu, did not object to the application while the court granted the request before adjourning the matter to Dec. 5. When the case came up, the accused appeared before the court for the first time after being served with bench warrant.

His counsel told the court that he had filed a motion on notice to the court on Tuesday for consideration and asked for adjournment so that the complainants would also be served with the notice.

The Chief Magistrate, Garba Abdullahi accepted the plea and ordered that the motion on notice be served on the counsel to the complainants.

Abdullahi further adjourned the case to Dec.13 for continuation of hearing.
