Woman with massive tumor finally gets help After Being Turned Away By Four Hospitals

Doris Lewis, 59, doesn't have health insurance

ATLANTA - One woman with a massive, non-cancerous tumor is finally getting help after being turned away by four hospitals because she didn't have health insurance.
Doris Lewis, 59, of Atlanta, Ga., hasn’t had health insurance since her husband died a few years ago, ABC affiliate WSBTV reported.
It wasn't until the large tumor started growing in her abdomen that Lewis realized the burden of not having insurance.
Lewis told WSBTV that she's had the painful tumor for two months and it has grown to the size of a beach ball.  She had tried to get it removed, but she kept getting turned away because she didn't have health coverage.

When the pain became unbearable, she called 911. It was then that doctors at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta agreed to treat her despite not having insurance.  Doctors at Emory said that the tumor is benign, but it's wrapped around her ovaries.
Lewis' surgery is scheduled for June 10.
