A local butcher and the wife he is thought to have murdered before plunging to his death from a multi-storey car park.
Oliver Ruse, 37, was found dead at the foot of a six-storey car park in Bury St Edmunds at 12.10pm yesterday.
After finding the body, police went to a cottage the man's wife is thought to have been renting in nearby Long Melford, where they discovered her body inside at 2.40pm.
The deaths leave the couple’s four daughters - all believed to be aged between 11 and six - without parents. They are now being looked after by family members.
According to locals Mr Ruse, described as a devout Catholic, had separated from his wife who is believed to have come from West Africa, more than a year ago but the couple stayed in touch for the sake of their four daughters who all went to local Catholic schools.
One shocked villager said : "It is a shocking tragedy - we knew there had been problems between Oliver and his wife but no-one ever imagined it would come to something as terrible as this.
"Their children are dear little girls - it is heartbreaking to think they have lost both their mother and their father."
Mr Ruse took over the traditional butchers business, founded in 1860, from his father Henry several years ago and had been running the successful shop and delicatessen.
