Former All Black rugby star Jerry Collins (right) has been killed in a car crash (centre and right) in southern France. The 34-year-old's wife Alana Madill (pictured left with Collins and their baby) as also killed and their two-month-old daughter Ayla suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to hospital in Montpellier.

The New Zealand forward was travelling on the A9 motorway near Herault, France, where he plays for club side Narbonne, when his car is reported to have come to a sudden stop, possibly because of technical problems. The vehicle was then hit at full speed by a bus. Two bus passengers were injured but Collins and his wife were killed instantly. Collins, who was capped 48 times by the All Blacks, was currently a member of the French side Narbonne.
The Hurricanes, one of Collins' former teams, has expressed their sadness at the tragic deaths.  'We are shocked and saddened to hear the news of Jerry and his wife Alana passing,' CEO James Te Puni said
The bus drivers, who are in shock following the accident, managed to remove the baby from the wreckage before emergency services arrived.
'It is a travesty. Both Jerry and his partner have been killed. Their three-month-old baby is very badly injured. It is devastating news for his family and everybody,' Tim Castle, Collin's agent, told Stuff.co.nz

It is believed Collins stopped the car after a mechanical fault moments before being hit by the bus

Their daughter Ayla (pictured with her mother and father) was taken to the hospital of Montpellier in a serious condition
Collins' cousin, Vincent Collins, also confirmed the infant is in a critical condition in a heart-wrenching post on social media.
'In shock and disbelief after hearing of the passing of our beloved cousin Jerry Collins and his lovely wife. Wow! Did not see this one coming,' he wrote on Friday afternoon.
'I was just smiling and laughing with my fiancé at some of his cute pictures with his daughter a couple of days ago, and here we are talking about this sad news and tragedy.
'Don't know what else to say but please pray for their three-month-old daughter as she is in critical condition.'
