Two Occupants Of A Sport Utility Car Feared Dead When Container Fell Off Ojuelegba Bridge As We Usher In 'Ember' Months Today

The fear that looms in the air and the calamity that lucks in the corner during each 'Ember' months in Nigeria starting toady 1st September, October, November and December has called for attention. Nigerians start and spend a year hopefully and in relaxation of mind, but when the yuletide draws close, they become uneasy, frightened, extremely conscious and unusually religious for fear of the unknown. This is because the yuletide is always characterized with tragedies like countless road crashes/accidents, increased crime rate in form of armed robbery, kidnapping for ransom and so on.



Therefore, following the peculiarity of these “Ember” months, (i.e. the periods leading to Christmas day),This period is indigenously known as “Ember Months” (which is coined from the last five letters of the months of September, October, November and December). It is a period of rush and haste as well as a period of terror and tragedies. Yet, it is a period of happiness and celebrations. During this period, Nigerians engage in a lot of activities to wrap-up the year.  in respect to the spate of crime and road clashes/accidents, many persons have given reasons for it. While reckless driving and bad roads are held as major reasons for the increased cases of road accidents during this period in Nigeria.

Two occupants of a black Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) were on Wednesday today feared killed after a container fell on their vehicle from atop the bridge in Ojuelegba, Lagos.

The incident, which occurred around 5:00pm at the busy Ikorodu Road, by Ojuelegba, was said to have caused heavy gridlock on the axis.
About five tons container which was being conveyed by a heavy duty truck on the bridge, overturned and fell to the ground.

The situation which was said to have frightened onlookers, made several motorists including the driver of a white vehicle hit by the container to flee for their lives.
But unfortunately, the driver of the SUV, said to be a female, and another person were trapped underneath the container, which completely smashed the vehicle.

It took the combine effort of the Federal Fire Service, whose office is located around Ojuelegba and other good samaritans to evacuate the container.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, said there was just one occupant in the black SUV.
Farinloye, who said other rescue agencies were yet to get to the scene at the time of filing the report, disclosed that they were trapped in the gridlock caused by the accident.
