The Democratic Experience Nn Nigeria Has Been A Continuing Learning Curve - Six Lessons We Have Learnt - By Reuben Abati

The democratic experience in Nigeria has definitely been a continuing learning curve, and the more lessons we learn at various active centres: people, platforms and processes, the richer our democracy, the stronger the society evolves to deliver a brighter future for the sovereign. The greatest residue of our democracy in the last 16 years (1999–2015), I think, is the manner in which our community has been enriched by lessons that have practically changed our lives.

The democratic deficit is less than the gain; for us, democracy is essentially liberative and should endure. It is partly the reason why no matter the observed shortcomings of the five-month-old Buhari administration, the Nigerian people remain optimistic about their belief in the viability of the democratic option. They know that they have been empowered in such a manner that succeeding governments will always be held accountable to the electorate. Thus, democracy has reframed the national dialogue and the people’s expectations.

Ooni Stool: Court Dismisses Suit Against Ife 1980 Chieftaincy Declaration

An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo yesterday dismissed a suit challenging the competence of the Ooni of Ife 1980 Chieftaincy declaration.

The declaration was the authority relied upon by the Ife kingmakers in asking the Giesi Ruling House to present the successor to the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade.

The Lafogido Ruling House through Sooko Adegoke and Prince Marcus Adebola Akimoyero had approached the court to stop Governor Rauf Aregbesola, the Obalufe of Ile-Ife, Oba Solomon Omisakin (now late) and the Lowa of Ife, Chief Joseph Ijaodola from allowing only Giesi Ruling House present the next Ooni.

The plaintiffs asked the court to set aside the 1980 Ife Chieftaincy Declaration which they described as “lopsided, unjust, unconstitutional and unfair.”

Justice Oyebola Adepele Ojo,  in her judgement said the plaintiffs’ litigation was belated as the declaration was made in September 14, 1979 and registered in January 28, 1980.

She said they should have filed their objection within five years of the registration of the declaration.

Without A Cabinet, Nigeria Is Stuck 'On Hold' - Reuters

Seven months after Muhammadu Buhari was elected president on a promise to "fix" Nigeria, a policy vacuum has brought decision-making to a halt, hampering everything from national budget planning to new roads and art exhibitions.

Late on Thursday, the Senate ended yet another session screening Buhari's ministerial candidates without giving its approval, leaving Africa's biggest economy with no government since the former military ruler took office on May 29.

With political wrangling in full swing, lawmakers will need at least another week for more vetting. After three weeks, only half of Buhari's 36-strong lineup has got the green light.

Buhari has launched the first steps to reform the oil sector in Africa's biggest producer and fight graft, which is blamed for most of the nation of 170 million people living in poverty despite Nigeria's vast energy wealth.

11 Most Common Nutrient Deficiencies - By Dr. Mercola

If you eat a balanced, whole-food diet like the one described in my nutrition plan, you’re probably getting adequate amounts of the vitamins and minerals your body needs to function.

If not (and this applies to the majority of the U.S. population), there’s a good chance you may be lacking important nutrients.

Even if you do eat well, how and where your food was grown can also influence your nutritional intake. Soil quality, storage time, and processing can significantly influence the levels of certain nutrients in your food.

Pradeep De Silva and Matthew Broadway-Horner
Pradeep and Matthew on their wedding day
A gay couple in London claim they were denied permission to adopt because their house wasn’t big enough – even though it has three bedrooms.
Matthew Broadway-Horner, 42, and Pradeep De Silva, 39, say this is just one example of how random the process seemed to be after they were on the books to adopt at Tower Hamlets council for two years.
They say they wanted to adopt one child or siblings up to eight years old and of any ethnicity.
But despite being approved in theory, they gave up when it came to actually being assigned a child because they kept being rejected for reasons which didn’t seem logical.
Matthew told Metro.co.uk that he wants to see the system change because at the moment too many people are dropping out.

Harvard Scientist Urges People To Stop Drinking “Low-Fat” Milk

For years, the idea that low fat milk is healthier than whole milk has been ingrained in the U.S. healthy diet culture. Unsurprisingly, a shift in this belief is bound to cause confusion among the health community.
A recommendation change from skim or low fat milk to whole milk is expected with the upcoming release of revised dietary guidelines this winter. The change is said to be backed by studies that whole milk, and saturated fats, is not as unhealthy as it was once thought and may even be healthier in the long run.

The decision by the Appeal Court to abruptly adjourn ruling on the case filed by the Senate President Bukola Saraki, seeking to stop his trial at the Code of conduct Tribunal, CCT, has been traced back to influential forces from Bourdillon compelling the President of the Appeal Court, to stay mute pending when the CCT concludes its hatched plan against Saraki.

68-Year-old Grandma Ejected From Church Quarters, Family House... Lives In 'Danfo' Bus With 6 Kids In Lagos - Punch

Life, no doubt, is a coin with two sides. To some, it turns the good side full of fun, pleasure, plenty and splendor. To others, the opposite is their lot. The pathetic story of 68-year-old Mrs Kehinde Oseni confirms she is facing the other side of life characterized by pain, poverty, homelessness and helplessness.

If this looks or sounds strange to you, then consider the plight of Mrs Oseni, a casual worker at Lagos Island Local Government. Ironically, she lives inside an abandoned local council revenue bus popularly called danfo on Freeman street, Lagos Island. An indigene of Isale Eko, also known as Lagos Island where multi-billion naira business transactions go on everyday, it is indeed a contradiction to see in the midst of this plenty, 'a daughter of the soil' is not only homeless but has been abandoned by all to her cruel fate.

The Role of The Pastor In Evangelism - An Encounter With Pastor David Oyedepo [Jnr] On The High Street of London

"The fruit of the righteousness [is] a tree of Life, and he that winnet souls [is] wise" (Prov.11:30)

The primary task of Christians and every ministry in the world should be soul winning, to go into the world in order to preach the Good news to all creatures, a command which was given by Jesus Christ. (Mark 16: 15-16). And one of the greatest joys that we have as Christians is the joy of leading someone to christ, And you and I  can be God's instruments in the salvation of others.

Unfortunately, many churches have lost focus on the mission of winning souls for christ. Most churches are not winning souls for christ because the leaders of these churches have lost their passion for lost souls.
