Violent Thamesmead London Sex Attacker Oluwadamilare Baiyewu Sentenced To 24 Years

Violent Thamesmead sex attacker sentenced to 24 years

A man who raped one woman and tried to attack another while stalking the same area in Thamesmead has been jailed.
Oluwadamilare Baiyewu, 22 (10.11.93) of no fixed abode was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on Thursday, 21 January to 24 years imprisonment after being found guilty of multiple offences against two women in December 2014. He is to serve a minimum of 16 years in prison and will then be on licence for eight years
Baiyewu was arrested after the two women were attacked near Binsey Walk, Thamesmead.
Police linked two incidents which occurred in that area after the second woman was raped on 9 December.
In that incident, the 17-year-old victim got off a bus at around 19:00hrs and was grabbed from behind by a man. He put a knife to her throat, threatened to kill her and marched her into a secluded area.
He then raped her in a violent attack.

A week before, on 2 December in the same area of Binsey Walk, another 17-year-old female was grabbed from behind and had a knife pointed at her.
The attacker attempted to pull her towards an underpass but she managed to break free and run off.
The Met's Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command investigated the incidents and recovered DNA from the rape.
Baiyewu was identified and police arrested him on 16 December 2014 following a manhunt.
He was placed on an identity parade and correctly picked out by the woman he attacked on 2 December.
Officers charged him with two counts of rape, kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon.
He was found guilty of all offences at Woolwich Crown Court on 2 November 2015.
Baiyewu worked as volunteer at his local church in an attempt to mask his sexual deviancy.
DC Chris Hammond of the Comnmand said: "Oluwadamilare Baiyewu is a dangerous, calculating, predatory rapist.
"He volunteered at a local church, creating the image that he was a pillar of the community, which I believe was an attempt to mask his true nature as a sexual predator.
"I would like to praise his victims for having the strength to come forward to police and give their evidence in court. The Met is committed to supporting victims of sexual assault and bringing their attackers to justice.
"The streets of Thamesmead are now a safer place without the presence of Baiyewu."
He added: "Despite the overwhelming evidence against him, Baiyewu refused to accept his guilt. He manipulated the legal system to cause two trials to be adjourned which caused both victims further distress.
"I would like to thank the two victims in this case who maintained their commitment to the prosecution despite Baiyewu's deliberate attempts at prolonging proceedings.
"Thankfully their will to see Baiyewu pay for his crimes enabled the trial to proceed at the third attempt and Baiyewu was rightly convicted of all charges."
Officers are appealing to anyone else who feels they may have been a victim of Oluwadamilare Baiyewu to contact them via 101. Any calls will be dealt with sensitively and in confidence.
