Woman Poisons Her Day-Old Stepson Due To Her Inability To Give Birth To A Male Child

25-year-old Bilkisu Adamu Isah, said to be a second wife, has been arrested for trying to kill a two-hour old baby boy in Kopa village, Niger State, NewTelegraph reports. She was alleged to have committed the offence at about 7am on Wednesday.
At about 5am on the fateful morning, the senior wife, Suwebatu Kohageuto, had been delivered of the baby boy. And barely two hours after, Bilkisu, was allegedly left alone to look after him, in order to allow Suwebatu have her bath.

A police source at the homicide section of the Niger State Criminals Investigation, Intelligent Department (SCIID) Minna, said, after Bilkisu observed that Suwebatu had started to bath, she went into her own room, brought out a bottle of a locally made insecticide and poured some into the mouth of the little child.
She then raised an alarm after the boy started foaming and crying. The boy’s grandfather, Alhaji Mohammed Audu, however told the bewildered family members that he suspected that the boy might have been poisoned because he perceived the odour when he sniffed him.
Bilkisu later confessed that she poisoned him with a view to killing him, due to her inability to give birth to a male child for her husband. The mother-of-two was promptly handed over to the police. Meanwhile, the little boy is said to be responding to treatment at the General Hospital Minna.
